During mid-April I was one of the 14 lucky ladies to attend the God + Life + Photography retreat in Maple, WI hosted by the incomparable Erin Johnson and Shelley Paulson. I met amazing women photographers with deep relationships with god and their craft. There was a lot of laughs, great conversations and many tears shed as we peeled away our rough layers to expose our vulnerable sides and express our fears to one another. I left feeling rejuvenated and gained a stronger relationship with God. This blog gives you a glimpse into our sessions with our model married and engaged couples. They were a delight to photograph and I loved working next to such phenomenal women photographers.
I started off with the lovely bride and groom Emily and Patrick as Erin Johnson shared her posing ideas and help coach each of us to sharpen our skills. I could not get over how amazing Emily's blush colored wedding gown was!
Our two groups switched and had the pleasure to learn from Shelley Paulson as she taught about composition with the lovely engaged couple: Kelly an Jason. Although these two weren't engaged a the time, they have recently become engaged...Congratulations to Kelly & Jason!
This was an experience that I went into with an open heart and an open mind. I didn't really know how much I needed an experience like this in my life, but I came back with a clearer vision about my life and my photography business. Words are not enough to express how grateful I am to Erin Johnson and Shelley Paulson for opening up and sharing such intimate parts of themselves with us. The women of GLP 2013 will always hold an special place in my heart. In two words: Thank You!
Between mixes of rain and sun in the forecast, we were blessed with an exceptional morning for Helen & Brad's session. Both Helen and I were crossing our fingers that the weather would cooperate, and Mother Nature delivered. I had such a wonderful time celebrating and sharing in the love the two of these have together. I found myself not wanting the session to be over...I enjoyed reliving the morning through the photos - now its your turn :)
Congratulations to Helen and Brad! They will be walking down the isle this September. I am so excited and honored that I get to be a part of their special day, thank you both for choosing SweetCheeks Photography!
This couple helps define exactly what I love about my job - the great people I get to work with. They came energized and ready to put their love on display with the sun shining just for them. Even when I wasn't clicking, these two couldn't help but be adorable together. They had me laughing, awing and enjoying every moment witnessing their love!
I can always tell when two people not only love each other but are the best of friends...and these two are one of those couples. Congratulations Lauren and Joey, I know the road ahead of you will be a love-filled, fun one!
After being together for eight years, these two will be making it official this June! I had such a great time with them on a windy afternoon down by the Rock River. These two have something special and it shows through in the images we captured together that day.
Congratulations to Nichole & Ryan! I can't wait to click away at the alter in just one month as you become Mr & Mrs.
With winter still holding on and sucking the last moments of its glory in the midwest I met Hanah & Trevor for their late march engagement session. This couple was so fun-loving and adorable together and enjoyed every minute out in the wind and cold with them.
I didn't realize when snapping the picture above that Hanah was sticking her tongue out, but when editing this image I had to chuckle...such a great moment!
I love when couples bring something to incorporate into their session to make it more "theirs". When they said they were bring these jerseys for some reason I thought they would be for the same team, but nope - a Vikings and a 49ers fan....now THAT'S love :)
Congratulations to Hanah & Trevor who will be married in Vegas this August! I hope that the lights of the strip illuminate in celebration of your love for one another, all the best.
I met Tara & Zack for the first time in DeKalb for their engagement session. With Zack standing tall at 6' 6" it was no wonder to me why he used to play for NIU's football team (The Huskies). These two had done their homework and came prepared with some great ideas and excitement as we headed out to capture this important stage of their lives together.
One moment that was really touching during this session happened while we were walking through the woods. We came to a tree that Zack had carved their wedding date and initials into for the session (pic below). It was by far the sweetest thing any of my future grooms have done for an engagement session - it made me melt despite the cold weather. Tara - he's a keeper!
These two not only look fantastic together but it was easy for me to see the love between them. Being around newly engaged couples never gets old - I love seeing them interact from behind my lens. We headed to the stadium to wrap up the session with some football themed photos. Although Tara went to Kansas State (The Wildcats) she was all for the NIU Stadium shots...but represented her college by wearing a Wildcats sweatshirt.
Congratulations to the Huskie and Wildcat who fell in love! Thank you for having me be a part of this exciting time in your lives - I can't wait for the wedding :)
Lynsey and Jeremy were in high spirits and ready for their session. I love watching people interact during their engaged session...and even more-so when I know them outside of my lens like I did this couple. I loved seeing them together and getting to know them better as a couple.
I wish you both all the best in this new chapter of your lives together. I think you're great together and have to say that Jeremy has definitely finally found his match in you Lynsey :) Congratulations to Lynsey & Jeremy! [hugs]
Ashley and Mike were all bundled up for their chilly engaged session as we headed out and about in downtown Rockford. I had a great time getting to know them both throughout the session. Ashley said something that makes me smile: "We're just ready to hurry up and get married"...I hope you enjoy every moment of your engaged stage of life!
Congratulations Ashley & Mike! See you in September 2013 when you become Mr. & Mrs. :)
Margo & Matt were looking extra fabulous for their engagement session in Lincoln Park. As we traveled through the Lincoln Park Zoo area clicking away, the wind was in full swing. Check out some of my favorite shots of this lovely couple.
Congratulations to Margo & Matt, I am so excited to being a part of your Independence Day wedding next year...bring on the fireworks!
I was thrilled when my friend Jonathan reached out to me to capture his engagement pictures with the lovely Miss Erinn. These two couldn't have been any cuter together if they tried. It had been a long time since I had seen my friend Jonathan and I can honestly say, he has never looked so happy! Navy Pier is a special place to them because that's where they got engaged. Despite the whipping winds with a winter-like chill we conquered the pier together :)
I'm so happy I got to help commemorate this special time in their lives. Congratulations to Erinn & Jonathan - the two of you are a great fit for each other. Sending the warmest wishes for the rest of your engagement and your Pittsburgh wedding next October [hugs]
